About the project
As part of its service to the community, Sunshine Coast Council manages the Mary Cairncross Scenic Reserve in close association with a range of partners.
The Reserve, located in Maleny, is an iconic conservation, recreation, education and tourism asset.
To continue its responsible management of the Reserve, Sunshine Coast Council undertook important modernisation and upgrades of the current building facilities in order to meet the needs of all users.
The upgrade included a new Discovery Centre with elevated platform and boardwalk, a meeting theatrette, a conservation research area, offices and amenities.
The high community profile, exceptional conservation significance of the site and high degree of visitation were all critical factors in minimising environmental impacts during the construction period of the project.
BDR role
Sunshine Coast Council engaged BDR Projects to provide Superintendent and Project Management services to oversee the overall delivery of the construction works, and ensure compliance with contract, regulatory and legislative requirements.
BDR Projects’ nominated Superintendent was tasked with:
- Awarding possession of site to the Contractor
- Site supervision
- Contract management and claims management
- Contract administration
- Quality control
- Project controls
- Variation and EOT rulings
- Design change management
- Environmental management
- WH&S management
- Risk and issues management
- Stakeholder liaison.
Outcomes
BDR Projects provided Sunshine Coast Council with outstanding Superintendent Services which ensured successful project outcomes.
Complex design and environmental impact issues were dealt with effectively providing favourable outcomes to both the project and community.
