Nautilus Minerals is the first company to commercially explore the seafloor for massive sulphide systems, a potential source of high grade copper, gold, zinc and silver. The company is developing a production system using existing technologies adapted from the offshore oil and gas industry to enable extraction on a commercial scale at its Solwara 1 Project in the Bismarck Sea.
The project has required sub-marine exploration, development and procurement of frontier mining technology and negotiation and collaboration with diverse global stakeholders.
BDR Projects was handpicked to work with Nautilus Minerals to manage challenging aspects of the new frontier undersea Solwara 1 Project.
Project and contract management services have included procurement of major process equipment, engagement and management of contractors and consultants, construction management and module transport coordination.
Marketing and ore sales activities for Solwara 1 have consisted of negotiation with Chinese smelter companies, management of metallurgical test work for the Client and potential customers and development of the final ore sales agreements.
