BDR Projects and Flanagan Consulting Group works with Flinders Shire Council on a Study to assess Ecotourism Development Opportunities at Porcupine Gorge in Queensland Outback
BDR Projects and Flanagan Consulting Group (BDR & FCG) are excited to be working together with the Department of State Development, Manufacturing, Infrastructure and Planning, Flinders Shire Council and Queensland National Parks and Wildlife Service to assess the feasibility of several tourism development options at Porcupine Gorge, located north of Hughenden in Outback Queensland.
Porcupine Gorge is an incredible feature characterised by towering cliffs, vine forest, sandstone features and deep waterholes, making it a popular tourist stop for scenic views, trail walks and camping. Located in the middle of the famous Dinosaur Trail, Porcupine Gorge is also rich in fossils and interesting rock formations which makes it an ideal destination for Outback adventurers or visitors seeking a recreational and cultural experience that is unique to the region.
Development options being evaluated in the Study include an expansion of the existing campground, new walking trails, a skywalk viewing platform, and potential ecolodge accommodation options. It is anticipated that further infrastructure development around Porcupine Gorge may promote more domestic and international tourism visits to Hughenden and increase the average length of stay in the area.
The Study is being undertaken by BDR & FCG as part of the Queensland Government Maturing the Infrastructure Pipeline Program which supports the development of robust infrastructure planning.
